Identified where we need more help

Module 1 helped us identify where we needed more help. I was surprised how much it got us to communicate better, and to talk about issues we had never discussed before.

Increased communication

I was not expecting it to be that useful but actually the exercise of sitting down together and deciding how important this is and finding places where we differed and trying to sort it all out, it was more useful than I thought it was going to be.

Increased access to information

What I found most useful was being able to access the Health Library at any point during the module. All the information I needed was included there.

Supported goal fulfillment

I would add, it is well anchored now in my brain how to do SMARTT goals. This whole process was very helpful. I’m pretty sure that I have recuperated in my brain faster, because of following the study.

Provided encouragement and motivation

It sort of gives you permission. Just having that, “Oh this is all kind of normal” kind of feel about it. It’s okay to talk about it, it’s okay to take care of yourself, it’s okay to go to the doctor, it’s okay to – you know?

Kathy
Caregiver

Goal Achievement

I think using the SMARTT strategy to set our goals is very beneficial, and not everyone is aware of it, but it’s really important. It’s a concrete thing to do and it works.

How can Tempo help

Beyond information

Many websites provide medical information about cancer, TEMPO goes further. Throughout the years, patients and those supporting them have told us time and time again that their medical team often provided the cancer and treatment information they needed, but nothing about the “rest”. This meant nothing about how to cope day-to-day with the physical and emotional challenges of having cancer, recovering from cancer, or supporting someone with cancer.

This is where TEMPO comes in. TEMPO is a dedicated space for patients with prostate cancer and the people who support and care for them to learn more about the proven tools and strategies to improve their quality of life day-to-day. Each TEMPO module was meticulously developed to achieve this goal.
